Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology Department concerns with the diseases of digestive organs such as esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, bile ducts. In our department, diagnosis, treatment and follow ups of the digestive system diseases especially such as reflux, gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, hepatitis B and C, inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis and Crohn disease) that require specific expertise are carried out.

For this purpose endoscopic gastric and intestinal examinations (upper endoscopy and colonoscopy) are performed. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy process is performed as appropriate for ‘‘Japan Gastroenterology Cancer Screening Society (TJSGCS)’’ standards.

In necessary situations, in order to provide the optimal conditions before the process on stomach surface, a special liquid  is being drunk and optimum quality achieved and imaging records provide the observation of lesions.

Blood tests for the evaluation of the stomach cancer and some diseases that causes this are performed; risky patients that require endoscopic follow up are detected formerly. During endoscopic procedures, suspicious areas can be determined by using special tissue staining methods. At the early stages some cancer cases can be treated by special endoscopic methods (Argon plasma coagulation, mucosectomy).

By colonoscopy procedure; diagnosis and treatment of the patient are provided by evaluation of large bowels, removal of polyps-suspicious lesions with special methods when necessary.

Endoscopic methods such as ERCP for diagnosis and treatment of bile duct diseases especially bile stones and pancreas diseases (pancreas inflammation and pancreas cancer) are applied.

In all endoscopic procedures, the maximum comfort of the patient is provided by sedation, in a sleepy state that the intervention is not felt.
