Perinatology (Maternal-Fetal Medicine)

Our department provides high level services for the diagnosis, follow up and treatment of all the medical problems of high risk pregnancies and babies. All ultrasonographic examinations are made sensitively and with high standards. Also, patients are informed in detail.

Specific ultrasonographic examinations are performed between the 11th -14th and 18th and 23rd weeks of the pregnancy.

11th-14th weeks USG: Gestational age is confirmed, risk evaluation for chromosomal abnormalities especially for Down Syndrome is performed. Risk calculation includes;

Maternal age, intrauterine level of two hormone levels, measurement of nukal translucency by ultrasonography, determination of nasal bone, evaluation of the flow through heart valves of the baby (tricuspid valve) and ducts vinous flow. The results of this risk calculation, our patients are informed about  its meaning by face to face information and various advanced tests (CVS, amniosynthesis) which will possibly performed.

18th and 23rd weeks detailed USG: Structural detailed examination of the intrauterine baby is aimed. If there is premature birth risk (prior preterm deliveries, multiple pregnancy, previous uterus and/or cervix surgery), trans vaginal cervical length measurement is necessary.

Also in order to determine the fetal wellness in the later weeks of pregnancy; fetal development and growth, fetal weight, amnion fluid amount, fetal movements, evaluation of fetal respiration movements, doppler flow studies should be performed.

CVS (Chorionic villous sampling) at 11th and 13th weeks and amniosynthesis after 15th months are performed for high risk detected patients in terms of chromosomal abnormalities. Cord synthesis (taking blood sample from cord) process is performed in necessary situations in the later weeks of pregnancy.

 

Gynecologic Oncology

Gynecologic oncology department has the mission to provide the best current treatment to the patients by following current medical literature providing continuity to share of information in weekly training programs. Our basic target in patient services is preventive medicine. Besides conventional approaches in gynecologic oncology (cigarette, nutrition, barrier contraception etc.); early diagnosis is provided by promoting for vaccination programs and screening studies. Among these interventions there are; pap smear, colposcopy, colposcopy guided biopsy, vulva and vagina biopsy, histeroscopy, dilatation curettage and LEEP.

Additional treatment plans of gynecologic oncology patients after appropriate surgery are carried out with a multi discipliner gynecologic oncology group including expert medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology and radiology departments. Chemotherapy service is given by our unit, our patients are informed about the probable side effects and physician service is offered which they can reach in case of any complaints.

Başkent University Gynecologic Oncology Department is one of the clinics that the most gynecologic oncology surgery is performed in Turkey. Our physicians are among the first ranks in contributing world medical literature with the researches and published articles, they are among the founder and management teams of many associations about gynecologic oncology in Turkey and world.

 

Gynecology and Pelvic Floor Surgery

Our gynecology and obstetrics department is one of the important clinics that all the gynecologic operations can be performed laparascopically.

In our department; detailed gynecologic examinations, ultrasonographic evaluations, screening and procedures for early diagnosis, diagnostic tests for symptoms are performed to the patients who apply with complaints of menstrual period disorders, pubescence, endometriosis, urinary incontinence that can be seen at any age in women and that increase with the number of births, urge incontinence and prolepses of genital organs and those who apply for annual routine controls.

Together with menopause which is the period that menstruating ends and including non-menstruating period; the risky period of osteoporosis appear, increase in cardiovascular diseases, gynecologic cancers and breast cancers are seen.

For this reason annual follow ups become important.

By considering the medical history of the patients who are followed and treated in our clinic for menopause, necessary premise tests (breast usg, mammography, bone mineral density measurement, endometrial thickness evaluation) are carried out. Preventive care approaches are provided for  the effects of menopause.
