Division of Neonatology is the medical specialty of taking care of newborn infants, sick babies, and premature infants.

Baskent University Faculty of Medicine, Division of Neonatology provides inpatient and outpatient care for neonates and  infants. Clinical trials  relating to neonatology are  conducted by neonatologists. Pediatric residency training program offers a unique clinical, academic and research experience in the division.

Baskent University Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) represents the highest standard of NICU design, technology and clinical practice. This specialized unit is staffed by a highly skilled team of neonatalogist, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiac surgeons,  pediatric surgeons, neonatal nurses and other ancillary medical providers.

Antenatal close follow-up by perinatologists detects high risk conditions before babies are born, enabling them to be given appropriate treatment after birth.

We give information about preterm birth and other potential outcomes of high-risk pregnancies.  The best outcomes for newborns with congenital heart disease due to prenatal follow up by perinatologists.

Our NICU provides specialized complex care to all preterm infants also with weighing less than 1000 g and sick newborn infants with congenital conditions and other health problems. The NICU is equipped to provide technologically advanced care, with state-of-the-art radiant warmers, omnibeds, isolettes, respirators and cardio-respiratory monitors.Newborn infants with pulmonary respiratory problems have been treated by mechanical ventilation  by  invasive or  non-invasive technique.

We encourage and support families’ active participation in caring for the babies in the NICU, especially through kangaroo care, or skin-to-skin contact between family and the baby.

Our NICU has rooming-in facilities where parents can  stay and care for their baby prior to discharge,

When the infants are discharged from our NICU, they follow-up in the outpatient clinic where also provides parental education about caring for  their newborns.
