Urology

The department of urology has been in service with full equipment for many years parallel to establishment of the university and medical faculty. As the contemporary development of urology clinics throughout the world the department serves in subspecialties besides general urology that may be listed as Uro-oncology, Pediatric Urology, Female Urology and Neurourology, Andrology, Minimally Invasive Treatments and Endourology with ESWL (extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy).

The department has a new generation Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripter, Urodynamics Laboratory capable of videourodynamics and Ultrasonography available for followup of lithotripsy patients, transrectal ultrasonography and prostate biopsy, workup of erectile dysfunction with Doppler evaluation and adjunct to daily physical examinations.  Another shock wave equipment specific for the treatment of erectile dysfunction is also available.

All kinds of surgeries from day cases to major oncological procedures and elegant techniques for endoscopic urinary stone treatment are carried on a routine basis with high success rates. The department is in cooperation with several disciplines for a complete workup for diagnosis and treatment, including our high standard Labs, Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Oncology and Pathology.

Some of the surgeries carried out are bipolar transurethral resection of  prostate (TURP), radical prostatectomy, transurethral resection of bladder tumors, radical cystectomy and diversion, radical and partial nephrectomies, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and female anti-incontinence surgeries.

On the other hand, the faculty closely follow new developments and facilities in urology to create specific areas in research and carry on pregraduate and postgraduate medical education. Faculty members have authored several national and international publications.
