Pulmonary Diseases

Our department was established in 1997. As a part of Faculty of Medicine we provide both theoretical and practical courses to the medical students and also to the residents that apply to our department. Besides education and scientific research in the related field our mission is to provide a high quality, quick and uptodate medical care to our patients. We provide medical care for both outpatient and inpatients. The outpatient clinical services are provided by five faculty members on the 5th street, which was opened in 2003. Outpatient clinic services for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of all lung diseases are provided in our department. Patients in need for close follow-up are hospitalized and a multidisciplinary approach involving collaboration with other medical departments is provided by our 2 specialists in the field.  Primary diseases which are involved in the diagnosis and treatment field of Chest Diseases Department: Asthma, allergic diseases, acute/chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, pleural diseases, mesothelioma, pulmonary infectious diseases, pneumonia, tuberculosis, interstitial lung disease, sarcoidosis, pulmonary embolism, occupational lung diseases, sleep-disordered breathing and smoking addiction. All diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in our department are performed by academic staff and residents of Department of Chest Diseases as well as specialised nurse and supporting staff. A well equipped and high quality pulmonary function test laboratory, bronchoscopy unit, a laboratory for sleep medicine, smoking cessation unit  are available.
