HAEMANGIOMAS OF THE LIPS
These haemangiomas of the lips are seen frequently. They may be small
red swellings or like in this patient, they may turn into big masses. Crusted
lesions are rare. This kind of lesions are a special finding in angiokeratotic
haemangiomas. Angiokeratotic lesions do not respond well to propranolol.
The lesions involving the upper lip to the nares and thick lesions partially
respond to treatment. In most of these cases, surgical intervention may
be necessary in the future after the regression of lesion. Propranolol tre-
atment enhances surgery in such cases.
There was a red small swelling after a week from the
birth. The lesion became crusted after one and a half
month. There was feeding difficulty and the child experien-
ced hemorrage from the lesion. He is admitted to seven dif-
ferent hospitals for the condition. Plastic surgeons recom-
mended a wide excision. After the treatment started,
the response was excellent with propranolol.
