CRITICAL POINTS IN
HAEMANGIOMA TREATMENT
Although propranolol has been used in hypertension in many patients
previously, its use in haemangioma is different. The most important prob-
lem is some of the patients are small prematures lower than 1000 gr in
weight. Hypoglycemia risk may be increased in these babies because
of vomiting and feeding problems. Another subject is that propranolol
should not be used with some drugs.
In some cases, if another common drug is added to treatment, careful
attention must be given to the time of vaccination.
The lesion was a small stain at birth. They thought it was due to sweating. In the first 3
months, it became darkened and swollen from the skin surface. Follow-up was recommen-
ded by doctors. After 5 months, lesion became bigger. Propranolol was prescribed by a
doctor but the family stopped treatment because they thought it was ineffective.
The patient was seen by another doctor in Kiew (Ukraine) where the father lived for work. He
was sent to Turkey because they said that propranolol treatment was not applied in Ukraine.
