established to start and maintain therapy with a multidisciplinary ap-
proach and treatment group including pediatric cardiologist, radiologist,
newborn specialists and geneticist. Therapy information forms were
prepared and given to the families with texts written for the drug
treatment at home.
The web site of Masal Baby named ‘Elveda Hemanjiom’ (meaning Good
Bye Haemangioma) which was introduced from Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus (KKTC) was the turning point. In a short amount of
time, our patients started to use social media for communication on
Internet. Number of our patients were rapidly increased. Afterwards
we have treated more than 500 patients with haemangioma under one
year-old. In our Ankara hospital, we have treated many patients from
all over Turkey, especially from large cities like İstanbul and İzmir. In
Adana, we had patients from Çukurova Region and Southeastern part
of Turkey. We also had foreign patients from Turkish Republics, Sincan
region of China, and Ukraine. We communicated and discussed the
Turkish patients living in Europe. We presented our results in national
and international meetings and gave conferences in Universities, pro-
fessional societies; and gave TV speeches and shared ideas with our
colleagues through publications.
Until now, there was no patient who did not respond to treatment
under one year-old who was treated primarily by our department. This
success was not a coincidence. Thirty years of experience in oncological
treatment and advantage to initiate a new drug in a disease make us
to plan the appropriate laboratory tests and follow the patient proper-
ly. One to one communication with the parents after returning home,
developing the treatment protocol in continuous way, searching for
perfection and most importantly making this issue a principle of good
clinical practice raised our the success.
We have prepared this catalog for guidance of the families for treat-
ment of this disease and gave short and clear information about drug
therapy. We had photographs of our patients (especially all of patients
in Ankara) at the beginning and at different intervals of treatment.
We wanted to share with you the photographs of the patients before
and after treatment and let you see the results of treatment.
The 19 patients in this catalog are with regular follow up and/or send-
ing their photographs from time to time. They supported us when we
need them as a good sample and guide for the patients and families
who are in a problematic situation with haemangiomas. We thank to
the family members who gave their permission, in the name of our pa-
tients, and kiss the eyes of our patients who had been also our children
after this struggling course.
