Frequently
Asked Questions
•
Should an effective hypertensive
drug be given to babies?
It can be given with a careful dose calculation. The drug is
being used nearly for 50 years in children over 1 year of age.
It may also be given to some of the premature and new-
borns. Special attention should be given to dose calculations
Did the drug have early
side effects?
There is no drug without a side
effect. The important thing about the
side effect is whether it is predictable
and avoidable or not. The side effect
is not important if it is not vital. In
about 550 patients, we had to stop
treatment in only two patients.
Did the drug have
permanent side effects?
This drug has been used for about 60 years in med-
icine and no permanent side effect was defined.
There was no report about a permanent side effect in
children who were using this drug for years. Simple
laboratory tests of the patient were evaluated for a
latent liver, kidney, heart and blood disease at the
beginning of the treatment.
Is this drug effective in all of
the vascular diseases of babies?
No. Congenital vascular diseases may involve arteries, veins
or lymphatic vessels. There may be vascular abnormalities
of the large arteries with veins (arterio-venous malforma-
tions). The drug is effective in only small arterial diseases
(Haemangiomas) it is glorious that most common diseases
of congenital vascular diseases are haemangiomas (80-85%).
Experience is important to differentiate these diseases.
