WOUND FORMATION AND

GANGRENOUS CHANGES DUE TO LOW

BLOOD SUPPLY IN HAEMANGIOMAS

In small amount of haemangiomas, the blood supply of the skin is diminished

by the abnormal vessels of haemangioma. The vessels of haemangioma do not

help this blood supply and nourishing of the skin. We call it necrosis and bleed-

ing will be the result in this kind of low blood supply in the tissue. Scarring is

frequent. The lesions in the ear cartilage have the highest risk of necrosis.

Infection is seen in big haemangiomas and especially in the lesions located

at diaper region. In these kinds of lesions contaminated with urine and

feces, antibiotic creams and disinfectant solutions are used for local treat-

ment besides propranolol.

‘The stain in the patient’s face was present at birth and

became dark red and swollen. Then it was crusted and

had little bleeding. There was no infection.

The response to treatment was quick. You can see the lesion

in the photographs at day 18 and at 3,5 months.
